Location

The site is located in the city of Aulnoye-Aymeries, some 1-hour train ride from Lille or 2 hours from Paris. A round trip by train from Paris is what most of our visitors choose. Some visitors prefer to travel via Brussels and renting a car there.

Two options of the site visit are available, a ‘standard’ visit which should take a full day, and a shorter version of the visit which takes approximately half a day.

Frequently Asked Questions

The demonstrator site is located in the city of Auloye-Aymeries in the Northern France, close to the border with Belgium.

Some of the international airports are: Paris (3-hour driving time), Lille (1.5 hr), and Brussels (1.5 hr).

The program includes visits to the proof-of-concept underground storage (POC), the high-pressure testing facility (bunker), and two mills, the threading mill and the forge.

Vallourec will provide Personal Protective Equipment for the visitors to the site: hard hats, safety goggles, ear plugs, lab coats, and steel toe boots. Customers are encouraged to bring and wear their own safety boots.

To arrange your visit to our hydrogen storage demonstrator, please contact your usual Vallourec representative.

The containment cavity at the POC site is 25 metres deep and measures 1.5 m in diameter. The follow-up commercial projects will feature cavities up to 100 m in depth and up to 10 m in diameter, depending on the actual project hydrogen storage capacity requirements.
