Challenges

When left unused, stocks degrade over time risking downhole integrity if run, and assessing them involves expensive logging at UT/EMI benches. Alternatively, scrapping all unused stocks can potentially waste good quality pipes.

Our Solution

Tubular Repurposing inspects and evaluates the condition of inactive and workover casing, tubing, and riser directly in the field using Ultrasound and Eddy-Current technologies providing the following deliverables:

  • Full inspection report: Full pipe length examination, in addition to visual inspection, delivers a thorough condition report with defect maps.
  • Comprehensive tally list per pipe containing values for wall thickness, ID, length, calculated OD, eccentricity, out-ofroundness, ovality, bore volume, and metal volume, beneficial for optimizing the string for packer, cement displacement, and casing wear mitigation.
  • Digital data set compatible with traceability systems

A Winning Solution
In Brazil, an IOC required around 30-40 joints of 14’’ casing for the bottom of the string inside a salt dome, which presented a higher risk of collapse. Ordering new pipes would take too long, so the IOC ordered a visual inspection and ultrasound examination using the In-Pipe Rover on 14’’ stocks in their yard. Of the 50 inspected pipes, 36 were accepted with full-length wall thickness greater than 90% of nominal value. The operator was able to categorize pipes according to wall thickness and ensure well integrity in the salt dome.
