Base Pipe

Base pipe is a full length tubing or casing that can be perforated with holes / slots, used as the backbone for sand screen joints or swellable packers. Sand screen joints are manufactured starting from base pipe on which layers of mesh are welded. Screens are used to filter the sand in the reservoir and to prevent it from coming in the production string. Swellable packers are downhole devices used in completion to isolate the annulus from the production conduit, enabling controlled production, injection or treatment. Pipe can be delivered with holes / slots already perforated. Base pipe is also known as sand screen and perforated pups.
